The Phuture of Shaving With Philips
Philips, maker of the ever-popular BodyGroom, has just patented the future of shaving - and it's not a twenty seven-bladed razor cartridge. In the future you're going to be shaving with light. Did I just blow your mind?
Now we've all heard about electrolysis - lasers zapping hair follicles which can be, not surprisingly, somewhat painful and leave the skin irritated.
Researchers at Philips’ Lab in Eindhoven, in the Netherlands, have found that short, weak pulses of near infrared light causes follicles to change from their natural growing state to a dormant state, known as the "telogen phase".
Zappity zap... hair stops growing. That was easy.
No real news on when this device will reach the mainstream market, or exactly how it will work, but Philips claims that "Three treatment sessions, over the course of two weeks, reduces hair growth by 90%".
Here's the link to the full patent - "Device and method for low intensity optical hair growth control ".
