Celebrity Facial Hair Friday - Kurt Vonnegut
It seems so silly to sum up a man's life with a comment on his mustache, but here I go...
Author Kurt Vonnegut died two days ago. A celebrated author and World War II veteran, Vonnegut had a unique writing style often mixing science fiction, political satire, and personal experience. I first read Cat's Cradle and Player Piano in high school and have been a fan ever since. The world has lost one of the great literary voices.
And one the great mustaches. That's right. A great mustache. It's not often that I come out in favor of the mustache, but in Vonnegut's case it suits him to a tee. A perfect accent to the somewhat unruly hair, and the somewhat counter-culture writings and teachings. Being clean-shaven would have been a sign of conformity. And being scraggly bearded would have meant he was lost in the disassociated world of academia. Instead the mustache bridges the gap and allows him to live on the edge as an observer of all.
Well shaved, sir.
