Gillette and Schick are Ripping You Off...
Here's an interesting post on the site American Consumer News entitled Gillette and Schick are Ripping You Off. Never Pay for another Razor Again. Bold statement. What's the deal?
[...] why do razor blades get dull? It’s actually because of the moisture in the shaving cream and the water that we make use of that makes them dull. [...] Each time we use it more water collects on the razor blade, causing oxidation and thus a microscopic form of rusting which causes the blade to become dull.
It only makes sense that if we make a point to dry off our razor blades after making use of them that they will last much longer. Simply dry off your razor blade with a towel after making use of it or better yet a blow-dryer to be sure to remove all moisture. Your razor blades will go from being dull after just a few days to staying sharp for several months.
Good advice. Hmm... I seem to remember reading something similar a while back. Oh yeah, I think it was a piece on ShavingStuff.com entitled Gentlemen, Dry Your Razors.
For the last month or so I've taken an extra minute and really dried my razor. That means patting it gently with a towel to get all the visible moisture off of it, and then flicking it or waving it around quickly to get those extra few drops off. Feels kind of silly but it totally works. I easily get six shaves out of each cartridge now, up from four. That's a decent savings given the price of Mach3 blades.
Wow. Whoever writes that blog is really smart.
