South Central Alaska Beard and Moustache Club

Alaska's been getting quite a bit of attention recently, what with the surprise pick of Sarah Palin as John McCain's running mate. Here's a little slice of Alaska which deserves its time in the limelight. It's the South Central Alaska Beard and Moustache Club, and it's gearing up to host the World Beard and Moustache Championships on May 23rd, 2009. That means construction's already well underway on the bearded toboggan run, the track for the mustache relay race, and of course the giant goatee slalom. Nobody's expecting opening ceremonies to beat China's recent masterpiece, but let's just say there may be a couple of guys flying around the rooftop suspended by their handlebars.

Our club was founded in 2003 to extend the annual Mr. Fur Face competition at the Miner's and Trapper's Ball into a year-round celebration of competition and comradery. Members include former Mr. Fur Face title holders , World Champions, and world class competitors.

Here's what I can infer from the South Central Alaska Beard and Moustache Club. There are a lot of beard and moustache clubs in Alaska. There's the North Central Alaska Beard and Moustache Club, the Southeast Alaska Beard and Moustache Club, and who could forget the Due West Alaska Beard and Moustache Club. I hear you can see Russia from their main offices.

Anyway, start planning your trip now for the World Beards in '09 in Anchorage. Now where are my Michelle Shocked tapes? And where can I get me one of those patches?
