Close Shave or Big Miss?

I happened to catch this Barbasol commercial on YouTube, not the TV, so I can't judge it in context with other TV commercials, but it left me just shaking my head.

Give it a watch and tell me what you think:

Is this really going to get you to buy Barbasol? I don't get it. It's got cool 'wide open road' imagery, and semi-trailers, but it's not making me run for the Barbasol.

Are they trying to sell to truck drivers? Or are they selling to the wives?

Leave a comment and explain this to me, please. Maybe I'm dense.

Someone once told me: if you don't connect with the Commercial, it's because you are not its target audience.

Perhaps, that is why you didn't get the urge to rush out and buy Barbasol.

Consider beer commercials. This Barbasol commercial shares many of the same visual, musical and thematic elements as the semi-trailer-full-of-beer commercials: the King of Beer type of commercials.

Those beer commercials obviously work. So, this Barbosol commercial will work in the same mysterious way.

I think the most important part of this commercial is the inclusion of pancakes in the penultimate shot. Obviously, a close shave with Barbasol will garner you two things.
#1: Ridiculously hot women who wear flannel shirts to bed and make sure to do their hair and makeup prior to going to sleep.
#2: Pancakes.
