Review of Cyril Salter Luxury Shaving Cream

cyrilsaltershavecream.jpgAs an old school shaving enthusiast, it's very cool to see companies focusing on wet shaving products. And not only just wet shaving products, but quality products. Sure, there's a market for the shaving cream that comes in a can, but I've been seeing a trend toward using a safety razor, a shaving brush and a great shaving cream in men's daily grooming routines.

So when Shaving Shack sent me a couple of items to review, I was pretty jazzed to open the box and find a box of Feather double edged razor blades, and a tub of Cyril Salter Luxury Shaving Cream for me to try out during my daily shaving ritual. (I've also got a Cyril Salter straight razor that I'm trying out, but since I'm still learning the ropes, I'm going to wait a bit to post a review of it.)

I'm a big fan of Feather razor blades - I've found them to be not only one of the sharpest blades I've ever used in my safety razor (Shaving Shack calls them "obscenely sharp"), but also one of the longest lasting. My daily shave comes from a Merkur safety razor, and with a Feather blade installed, I know that it will slice through the thickest whiskers like a hot knife through butter. If you're looking for a better blade for your safety razor, give the Feather blades a try - I think you'll be impressed as well.

To be honest, I had never heard of the Cyril Salter Gentlemen's Grooming Products before - perhaps because it's an English brand, and not found in the corner drug store here in the U.S., or maybe because I'm not a gentleman... Ha!

I received the Classic Almond version of the shaving cream, and while it did have an almond scent, it wasn't overpowering. The cream is definitely thick - so thick that I had to make an effort to keep it thin enough on my face for an enjoyable shave. Once I got the consistency sorted out, I found that the Cyril Salter shaving cream gave me a great shave with plenty of razor slip, and it rinsed clean with no greasy residue left on my face (as sometimes happens with cheaper creams).

So if you're looking for a new luxury shave cream, or perhaps a good gift for your son, father, or husband, consider the Cyril Salter line of products. It's a quality product that helps give an excellent shave.
