When It Comes to Guys, What's Normal?
Here's a chance to find out how other guys really do things without having to ask all those self-incriminating questions. With chapters like "Before the Mirror and in the John", When It Comes to Guys, What's Normal?, the latest book by Bernice Kanner, explores the some of the more private moments in the average man's day. Our friends at Gillette have provided some of the funding for the book and some of the shaving-related statistics:
How many sport facial hair and how do they deal with it? (46 percent have no facial hair, while 12 percent show stubble; 90 percent of all American men shave away their facial hair with 72 percent using a razor and blade)

Strong Enough For A Man, But Made For A Woman
Oh the dirty underbelly of the shaving cream business has been exposed. And it turns out that underbelly is... a pretty good looking woman with smooth legs.
Unbeknownst to Todd Lappin, Gillette secretly replaced his shaving gel (and by extension every other bottle of Gillette men's shaving gel out there) with women's Satin Care. Will he notice the difference?
Thankfully the whole drama is documented on flickr, with before and after photos. Is it real or is it photoshop? We report, you decide.

Shaving Oil from Pacific Shaving Company
As a counterpoint to yesterday's five step shaving procedures, Pacific Shaving Company offers a much simpler solution. A couple of drops of their All Natural Shaving Oil and you're off to the races. Easy to use (see their simple directions), packed with natural ingredients, and backed by a money-back guarantee.
Shaving oil is not for everyone. My personal experience with other shaving oils is that they can make a great base for whatever shaving cream you're normally using, however I know a lot of people have success with just the oil. It's certainly less messy and easier to see your face. See if it's right for you!

Anthony - Logistics for Men
When he was younger, he may have delivered Prince spaghetti sauce to your house on Wednesday nights. Now, he's delivering high-quality shaving products to your face every morning.
OK, so he's not the same Anthony, but he may have a similarly long lasting impression. Feast your whiskers on this: Glycerin Cleansing Bar, Pre-Shave Oil, Vitamin and Hops Infused Shave Cream, Toner, and finally Allantoin, Benzocaine, and Aloe Afer-Shave Balm. Are you in heaven now or what?
Is it a little pricey? Sure. But you know what - you're worth it. Your face it worth it.
Anthony.com has a great set of kits if you're looking to sample a little bit of everything.
Do yourself a favor and splurge on some high-end, high-quality shaving products.

More Gift Ideas from King of Shaves
Here are a great assortment of gift ideas from King of Shaves. They've got sets of shaving creams and clensers for men and women, travel sets for those on the go, and a Barnet Box with fish-themed products. Don't tell me you don't have an uncle who loves to fish (and shave). Pay close attention to where these sets are available. Some are only available in the UK, and some are only available in the US.

Welcome to Your Straight Razor
The knifecenter.com has this great reprint of instructions and tips from DOVO, a large European manufacturer of straight razors. The page offers information such as the anatomy of a straight razor, care and sharpening techniques, and as well as some "personal observations" by Arthur Boone, who runs RazorCentral.
Speaking of RazorCentral - this site is by far the most thorough treatment of straight razors I have ever seen. Arthur has a big ol' warning on the homepage of his site which expressly prohibits the use of any contents without his prior permission, so I'll refrain from my normal habit of posting a preview snippet before sending you over there. But please visit RazorCentral if you have any interest in straight razors at all. You'll be overwhelmed (in a good way) with all the information.

Women's Shaving Tips from About.com
I'm not a big fan of About.com, but I recently came across a set of pages devoted to women's shaving issues which are pretty good. This one covers ten common mistakes when shaving your legs. Another provides ten tips for a happier, more confortable shave. I've linked to the stripped-down printer version of this page since I can't stand the clutter of ads and navigation in a normal About.com page, however it appears that About will redirect you to the clutter page if you attempt to do this. They're too smart.
Here are a few more links worth checking out:

Breej - Also for Razor Bumps and Ingrown Hairs
Yesterday we talked about Follique, one of many lotions which aims to reduce the irritation of razor bumps and ingrown hairs due to the shaving of curly hair. Here's the counterpoint to that argument from Breej:
Shaving Bumps are primarily caused by Trauma from Shaving, resulting in inflammation of the shaved area manifested as "bumps" as the body reacts to the trauma, compounded at times by the reaction of damaged Melanin Cells
Read more about their scientific research on their How It Works page, and then consider trying out some of their products. They'll even give you free shaving advice on the phone or over email. That's tough to beat.

Follique - For Razor Bumps and Ingrown Hairs
According to Follique's website, many men and women with curly hair, including a large number of African Americans, suffer from razor bumps and ingrown hairs. Shaving curly hair actually increases the hair's curliness, causing it to grow back downward into the skin.
In men, the condition commonly affects the anterior neckline, the chin, and maxillary prominence of the cheeks. In women, the condition commonly affects the legs and bikini line area.
While Follique points out the only true cure is to not shave, they admit this is not a "viable option" for most.
Follique currently sells two types of lotions to treat razor bumps and ingrown hairs, both for $21.95 and both available at their website's store. They have a money-back guarantee, so you're really got very little to lose... except of course those annoying ingrown hairs.

Maria Sharapova Shaving Tips
You might think that I'd be the kind of person who would go to great lengths to associate Maria Sharapova and shaving, just to put a picture of her on this site. And you might be right. But before we get too far ahead of ourselves, let me say up front that this article is a joke. It comes from TheSpoof.com, an aspiring Onion site, and it's kind of funny, if perhaps a tad over the line.
“One thing I do for all my fans is to make sure that I give my body a good overall shave before each match. You know, we Russian girls have more than a little peach fuzz here and there to contend with. When we're not playing tennis for a couple months, we don't bother shaving every day."
Oh Maria... Someday perhaps we'll get the truth. Until then, you can read the full article on Maria Sharapova's shaving tips here.

Read the whole press release here.
Shave and a Haircut
OK, so this isn't a product you can use on your own face, but think about this as broadening your horizon. And for all you Cinema 4D users out there who happening to be trolling shaving sites, serendipity!
Shave and a Haircut is the revolutionary hair generation system from Joe Alter that makes it easy to add hair to your 3D models.
Intrigued, it clicked over to the Shave FAQ where I was confronted with this question:
Does Shave support HyperNURBS?
Rest assured that the answer is yes, and rest doubly assured that I have no idea what a HyperNURB is, but that's why god invented google.
Blue Willow Shaving Mug
I think the world needs more visibility into the world of shaving mugs. Sure it's old school, but old school means someone had it right at some point in time. I can see using this instead of letting the water run. This Blue Willow Painted Shaving Mug is just too classic and we think it would make a great shaving mug to get your shaving mug collection started.
