In this traditional shaving documentary, Vinnie Morey and Trent Magnano talk about how their unique Hollywood barbershop (The Proper Barbershop), a blend of modern art, street culture blended with the traditional and old-fashioned was born. They discuss their open razor technique using Bluebeards Revenge shaving cream and how a traditional shave is "one of the last things a man can do to really enjoy a service that is not a manicure and pedicure you can do with your wife.".
"While the rest of Sesame Street was out enjoying sunny days sweeping the clouds away, he was at home fussing with his fuzzy unibrow. Don't let this happen to you - say hello to Parissa and bye bye to that bushy Bert Brow.
Parissa Men's Brow Groomer is as easy as A-B-C. The strips are simply warmed in your hands, applied to desired area and zipped off, leaving skin clean, sexy and smooth. With no heating or spreading messy wax, there is no fuss and no muss. The Brow Groomer also includes Azulene oil wipes for after waxing to prevent ingrown hairs and soothe skin instantly.
Helping you look like a real man... not a Muppet."
I'll be the first to admit that my personal grooming rituals don't usually include any facial lotions or potions, but since I've been writing for ShavingStuff, I've gotten quite a few products like that to try out for a review. So I usually use them a couple of times (or until I feel I have a good understanding of the product), and then they languish under my sink for months at a time before I use them again.
But a couple of weeks ago, I received a review bottle of TwinLuxe Soothing Face Balm, and I'll be darned if I'm not using it every day now...
TwinLuxe Soothing Face Balm is chock full of ingredients that soothe and nourish your skin, such as shea butter, pearl powder, rice protein, white tea extract, and willow extract. I've been applying it to my face after every shave, and it's so concentrated that a tiny drop covers my entire face. The scent is light, the feel of the Balm is not greasy or oily, and it leaves my face feeling smooth and tightened.
If you're looking for a new product for your face (or the face of someone you love), the TwinLuxe Face Balm is a winner.
TwinLuxe is a fairly new brand in the grooming industry, founded by identical twin brothers Anthony and Hubert Tsai, who have a vision of merging progressive innovation and precision craftsmanship in order to change the entire shaving experience.
"We want to bring the barbershop experience into the 21st century, all in your own home - an easy morning ritual that leaves you feeling pampered, fresh, and well groomed all day."
And if you're looking for a very unique luxury shaving gift, be sure to check out TwinLuxe shaving sets in chrome, anthracite, or ceramic - they're absolutely beautiful. The only issue I have with them is that they don't make a safety razor... But perhaps they'll consider it.
"The time has come for women to join men in growing facial hair for a cause. Eyeing "Movember," a decade-old movement in which men grow mustaches during November to raise awareness for prostate cancer and other men's health issues, Feministing's Lori Adelman is calling on the ladies to grow a unibrow.
This holiday season, abstain from plucking, Adelman urges, and pencil in a single brow if need be. "Challenging cultural norms about women's facial hair while raising money for a good cause? Now that's just the kind of thing that gets me in the holiday spirit."
So, you're looking for a great gift for a man in your life, and you think they might appreciate some shaving or grooming gear? Instead of browsing through the hundreds of personal care and shaving products on the market, save some time for yourself and check out the Shaving Stuff Holiday Gift Guide 2010.
We've spent the whole year reading about and reviewing shaving gear, and while there's a lot of great stuff out there, we've gone through it all and picked out some of the best shaving and grooming related gifts, depending on the type of man you're buying for.
Gifts for the Gadgeteer:
Go-Go-Gadget Shaver! The gadget guy loves a sleek machine, a tool that is on the cutting edge (!) of shaving gear.
Mr. Natural likes it simple and green. Unscented and all-natural are the keywords, and eco-friendly products are a plus. A sure win is Pacific Shaving Company's All Natural Shaving Cream, as well as their Shaving Oil, and their Blade Oil makes a man's razor last a lot longer.
Mr. Natural might appreciate the simpleness of a safety razor or a straight razor, which makes shaving a bit more of a man's ritual with his tools. The Merkur double edged safety razors are top-notch, and a number of styles are available to match the man who owns it.
Gifts for the Old School Shaver:
The Old School shaver is also a grooming ritualist, eschewing mechanical 'conveniences' over style and quality. He's probably got a couple of styles of safety razors or a straight razor, so picking up a year's supply of his favorite double edged razor blades or getting his blade professionally honed will lift you up a couple of notches in his book.
Stick to the tried and true classics for this guy - take a peek inside his shaving kit to see what he's into right now, then explore other products from those companies. A great place to start is at The Art of Shaving, and if you want to give him the VIP treatment, send him to the Barber Spa.
Gifts for the New School Shaver:
The New School shaver might change his facial hair style every month, so giving him a fantastic grooming tool like the Philips Norelco Stubble Trimmer will enable easy facial "re-branding" with the five o'clock shadow in rotation with a hip moustache or soul patch.
The big winner for New School shavers is the Gillette ProGlide, though. This razor is the culmination of decades of research into shaving technology and user feedback, giving an exceptionally smooth shave with a very comfortable grip. So think about giving a couple of packages of ProGlide cartridges, or a ProGlide starter package, and give him a smooth new future.
Gifts for the Manscaper:
The Manscaper is into being tidy, and no square inch of skin is exempt from the discerning eyes of this hardy soul. The hot item this year is the Philips Norelco Bodygroom System, which is especially recommended for taking care of those bits below the belt without pain or irritation.
Another excellent pick for the Manscaper is the Mangroomer, which lets him take care of shaving his own back - no more will he ask you to do it for him!
Inquire at a local waxing salon about a gift certificate for him to come in for a wax or sugar or Male Brazilian...
Gifts for the Hipster Shaver:
Yes, the Hipster needs a little holiday grooming love as well, and one way to show you care about your favorite guy (or gal) is with something crafty and one of a kind, such as a Beardling or one of these. Maybe a beard growth T-shirt or some moustache art.
There are even more recommendations in our other Holiday Gift Guides, so please check those out as well.
Here's to happy and painless holiday shopping for all your shaving and grooming gifts!

"Have you ever accused or been accused of having 'Man-Flu'? New research from Pfizer reveals the term adopted to ridicule men when they are sick could actually be having a negative impact, which is just not cricket!
This research shows these attitudes could mean that serious health conditions such as heart disease or diabetes are being left undetected -- and therefore untreated, like the poor fellow Wilbert in this clip.
