Inspired by Budweiser's "Grow One, Save a Million" campaign which asks guys to save water by not shaving, Pacific Shaving Company is asking beer drinkers across America to help save an additional one million gallons of water by drinking two fewer beers a week between now and World Environment Day (June 5).
In 2009, the leading global brewer sold more than 10 billion gallons of beer, of which water is a key ingredient. Pacific Shaving's just-formed Clean Cut, Clean Living initiative encourages consumers to get involved and save roughly 24 ounces of water each week by simply having a couple less cold ones.
Pacific Shaving understands that most of us need to shave every day. But the happy hour beer is optional. Consumers can visit Pacific Shaving's Facebook page to make the pledge and share the program with Facebook friends. For every pledge made between now and June 5th, the company will plant a tree. So let's each do our part to minimize the approximately 27 million gallons of water used each day in the brewing process by passing on the casual beer between now and World Environment Day.
When it comes to shaving, you can also do your part in conserving water by shaving at the sink and turning the faucet off. When it comes to the environment, Pacific Shaving Company is proud of the fact its line of natural, safe and eco-friendly shaving essentials is manufactured in the USA and uses minimal packaging. The company also works with Trees for the Future to plant a tree for every purchase.
Does your moustache broadcast your political affiliation? Evidently it does in Turkey:
"Leaning back into a maroon barber's chair, its dark leather cracked with age, Onur Karadogan flips through a dusty catalogue of moustache styles.
"An Islamist will ask for this one," he said, pointing to a neatly trimmed, almond-shaped example, bringing two fingers together to illustrate the two millimeters of space that the Koran deems must exist between the end of the upper lip and the beginning of the whiskers.
"These ones," he said, upon reaching a brittle page covered in images of dark-haired men with thick, walrus-style moustache of the Marx variety, "are more for the leftists."
In his 16 years of experience as a barber, Karadogan has become an expert at shaping these bushy declarations. Men don't wear their politics on their sleeve here, they write them across their upper lip."
I wonder what facial hair political classifications we could make here in the U.S.?
"There is a similarity between unwanted intrusive thoughts and unwanted intrusive facial hair.
Recent research from the All-Bulgaria Agricultural College (Organic) in the former Wandsworth, proves conclusively that the two phenomena are not merely similar, but fundamentally interconnected. And interestingly, the causal sequence can operate in either direction.
An increase in hair production on the end of one's nose or ear can produce an automatic negative cognition. Equally, a negative automatic thought can produce an immediate increase in hair growth on the outer surface at the tip of the nose or on the pinna."
Less than 23 bucks for one of the hottest grooming gadgets around... You can't beat that with a stick, as they say.
The coolest thing about the Mangroomer is, it helps even the least coordinated guy to take care of the hair back there, without bribing someone to do it for him:
The Mangroomer Do-It-Yourself Electric Back Shaver is absolutely the best way to get rid of unwanted back hair. This one-of-a-kind device features a large 1.5-inch blade that enables you to shave larger areas of your back with ease.
The Mangroomer's cutting-edge blade design delivers extremely close and smooth results without the potential of ingrown hairs that are commonly caused by straight edge and foil shavers. And with the unique patent-pending design, the Mangroomer opens to a staggering 135-degrees so you can reach all areas of your back from different angles with ease.
One of my pet peeves about shaving products is the number of choices that are overly oily. I don't care to have anything greasy feeling on my skin right after I shower and shave, so I'm always on the lookout for oil-free options. My most recent find is Sharps Kid's Glove Hydrating Gel.
"This light and oil-free gel is fully loaded with botanicals and anti-oxidants to combat the enemies: razor burn, dryness, sun damage and environmental pollutants. Dries invisible so even the most observant skin care cops won't know your secret. Not oily. Not heavy. Just enough fight."
The first time I used this product, I was pretty much hooked - it only takes a small amount, it goes on and spreads easily, and my face was left feeling as clean as it was when I got out of the shower. So if you're looking for an oil-free after shave product, you'll want to check out Sharps Kid's Glove Hydrating Gel.
Need to get a handle on that mo'? Perhaps all you need is a little styling help, so check out the Moustache Wax Action Pack:

We specialize in making quality, weather-resistant, and uniquely wonderful-smelling wax for your, or your loved one's, facial hair. And it's not just for moustaches! We have customers that use a very light application of wax on their full beards, to keep down stray hairs, and of course, to smell amazing."
I came across a new term yesterday: Glabermania, an uncontrollable craving for hair removal. And I'm wondering if some of us suffer from a partial addiction...
"Glabermania is also known as shaving addiction, but is not the only disorder associated with razors. The obsession may be so compulsive that a glabermaniac may regularly remove all hair from their body. They may also have the desire to shave continually, resulting in multi-day or weekly episodes of full body shaving."
If you've ever wanted to begin learning how to shave with a straight razor, then you've probably spent a good amount of time looking at all of the different options there are for razors, and you might be salivating over the thought of a beautiful blade (with an equally high price tag).
But does it make sense to spend a chunk of change on a new top-end straight razor (that may still need to be honed before shaving, which is something difficult for beginners to do), when you can pick up a quality used razor that's been honed to shave-readiness, for a lot less money?
You might consider the second option, and take a look at what's offered at Whipped Dog:
"The prices are very low, while the quality of the straight razor shaving edge is very high. As sold, the straight razors are cleaned, but not buffed and polished as is sometimes done. This keeps the price down, and maintains the vintage look and feel of the blade."
I've tried brand new straight razors that haven't been honed to shave-ready sharpness (not knowing any better!), and it's a really frustrating feeling. So if I was going to go out and purchase my first one, or a gift for someone, I would be looking through the selection of blades at WhippedDog.com. For around $40, which includes shipping, you can have a razor ready to meet your face.
And then, once you feel like you're ready to commit to shaving with the straight every day, go ahead and start looking at those one-of-a-kind razors...
If you've been hiding under a rock lately, chances are that you've been missing out on the hottest facial hair trend that nobody's heard of: the monkeytail beard.
"When we started TheMonkeytail.com, we didn't realize we were making a website about men who take pictures of themselves in the bathroom...but behold, TheMonkeytail.com. It's not easy to be a trendsetter, and simply put, the world isn't ready for the Monkeytail."
Well, we made it through April unscathed, and we're powering right into May - here's hoping you've got your kite ready to fly! If you missed any of our shaving or grooming posts in April, here's the monthly recap:
"I've had a beard for many years and have always found the issue of beard maintenance to be a prickly one (pun intended). Maintaining the beard, for me, has often involved questions of whether and how often to get out the trimmer or the scissors (or the weedwhacker) and, always, what to do about that hair on the cheek?
This hair grows above what I like to call the "beard proper" and I feel it sometimes keeps me out of polite company with folks who find me a bit too woolly."
Hockey fans in the US are invited to join in the tradition of growing their very own playoff beards for the Stanley Cup Playoffs, and raise money for charities across the country.
This year Remington joins forces with the 2011 Beard-A-Thon®, with the goal of raising $1 million dollars from among the thirteen NHL clubs participating.
"Get started and grow one for the team! To participate in the Beard-A-Thon simply log onto www.beardathon.com, choose your favorite NHL team, and invite family, friends and business associates to pledge their playoff beards. By receiving pledges, participants promise not to shave until their team wins the Stanley Cup® or is eliminated from the playoffs. Fans who are unwilling or unable to grow playoffs beards can pledge their favorite player, other local celebrities, or build their own beard with the "Build-a-Beard" web application.
Entering your beard into the Beard-A-Thon will also give you the chance to win prizes and special offers from Remington including beard-of-the-week prizes, exclusive promotions and access to free product samples."
Teams participating this year are the Buffalo Sabres, Detroit Redwings, Philadelphia Flyers, Buffalo Sabres Boston Bruins, Washington Capitals, San Jose Sharks, Los Angeles Kings, Nashville Predators, New York Rangers, Phoenix Coyotes, Tampa Bay Lightning and Chicago Blackhawks. To receive updates on Beard-A-Thon special offers, check out the Remington Hair Care & Grooming Facebook Page.
