Gifts for Dad: Anthony Logistics

anthonyGiftsForDada.jpg
Next up on our shaving tour of Father's Day gifts is The Dropp Kit Tray from Anthony Logistics for Men. That's not a typo. This isn't a dopp kit. It's a "dropp" kit.

Empty your change, remove that bulging wallet from your back pocket, take off that watch that you check incessantly to keep up with your hectic schedule, and place your keys (with no worries that you won't know where they are tomorrow morning) on your new personal valet tray.

The Dropp Kit is packaged on a thick, black, Italian Leather Valet Tray made exclusively for Anthony Logistics For Men by Arte & Cuoio.

What? You've never heard of Arte & Cuoio? Yeah, well neither had I. But their designs are pretty cool. Check out their website for a little edumacation in modern Italian art.

Anyway, aside from the leather dropp-ings, the kit also comes with Glycolic Facial Cleanser, Pre-Shave Oil, Shave Cream, and After Shave Balm. The Dropp Kit Tray from Anthony Logistics for Men is $175. Your dad's bulging back pocket will thank you.

A Trio of TSA-Approved Travel Kits

wanderlust_web_3a.jpg
When the TSA announced their crazy rules about liquids and gels on airplanes, who would have predicted they'd create a new market. Well, that's exactly what happened, and we're seeing an explosion of TSA-approved travel kits from all the major players in the men's grooming world.

Take Billy Jealousy's Wanderlust Travel Kit ($36), which comes complete with regulation 2 ounce containers of Hydroplane Shave Cream, Fuzzy Logic Shampoo, White Knight Facial Cleanser, ILLICIT Body Wash, Cool Medium Hair Gel, and most importantly - a Clear Vinyl Pouch.

baxterTravelDopp.jpg

Or, if you're a Baxter man, check out Baxter of California's Travel Kit + Dopp ($50). Baxter's gonna outfit you with 2 ounce bottles of Daily Face Wash, Oil Free Moisturizer, Super Close Shave Formula, After Shave Balm, Daily Protein Shampoo, a couple of hotel size EDA cleansing Bars, and a custom travel dopp bag. That means you're going to have to supply your own zip-lock clear plastic bag.

anthonyTravelKit.jpg

Finally, Anthony's in the TSA game with Anthony Logistics for Men's Grab + Go Travel Kit ($35). Two ounce bottles of Glycolic Facial Cleanser, Facial Scrub, Shave Cream, Astringent, Coconut Shampoo, Cleansing Gel, and the requisite zip top plastic bag.

Most of your favorite brands now sell these airplane-safe travel packs, so click on over to your products of choice and get set to sail through the airport.

SheFinds' HeFinds Friday

Perfect_Shave_thumb.png
The site SheFinds covers women's trends. What's cool, what's hot, and nothing in between. And on Fridays they often post a special HeFinds Guy Friday because hey, it's not just women who want to look good.

A few weeks ago they posted five "tips from Anthony Sosnick, the grooming guru behind Anthony Logistics for Men". We've reviewed Anthony Logistics for Men and found them to be pretty darn good. A great way to transition from the drug-store world of shaving into the specialty world.

The kit above is The Perfect Shave from Anthony Logistics for Men. $50 gets you an "8 oz Glycolic Facial Cleanser, 2 oz Pre-Shave Oil, 2.5 oz Shave Cream, and a 2.5 oz After Shave Balm, packaged in a sporty, black, mesh dopp bag." No too shabby. In fact downright trendy.

Special thanks to Laura at Shirt Snob for sending this in.

Anthony Logistics' Product of the Month - Ingrown Hair Treatment

ingrownHairAnthony.jpgThis month's Product of the Month from Anthony Logistics is Ingrown Hair Treatment. Eeww. But what's worse, talking about it, or living with it. That's right. Let's talk about it now, so you never have to live with it.

A gel complex of glycolic, salicylic and phytic acids gently removes dead skin, helps fight bacteria and frees the hair. Moisturizing and not drying. Willowherb and lavender soothe and calm the skin. Incombination thses help prevent ingrown hairs.

Oops. OK. Couple typos. They're investing their time and energy into eradicating in-grown hairs. Not writing copy.

And since Ingrown Hair Treatment ($25) is Anthony's Product of the Month, there's a special deal associated with it. When you buy it, along with Shave Cream and Glycolic Facial Cleanser, enter promo code "beatthebumps" and get a free mesh dopp bag. Excuse me - a free "nifty" mesh dopp bag.

Review of Anthony Logistics for Men

It's review time again. For the last month or so we've been putting the products from Anthony Logistics for Men (which we got from our friends at Details for Men) through the ShavingStuff ringer. More specifically - the products from The Perfect Shave kit, which include their Glycolic Facial Cleanser, Pre-Shave Oil, Shave Cream, and After Shave Balm. An $83 value, yours for only $50. Act now and we'll throw in a black mesh dopp bag and a grooming instruction guide. Hurry! Supplies are limited.

Not really. They've got plenty.

GlycolicFacialCleanser.gifFirst up is the Glycolic Facial Cleanser. Broken record time - great shaves start with clean skin. You must wash! I was initially skeptical of the Glycolic Facial Cleanser. Most cleansers I've used from other men's grooming lines either foam or lather up. Kind of a visual confirmation that they're really doing something. This did neither. It just sat there on my face, no matter how aggressively I worked in over my skin. The thing is, it did the job well. Anthony's cleanser does in fact get the dirt and oil off your face, and actually washes off your face better than any other cleanser I've used. Most other cleansers leave your skin slightly slick, like you can't wash off that last layer of soap film. Anthony's cleanser came off clean. Good stuff.

AnthonyPreShavOil.gifOK, let's shave. The Perfect Shave includes both Pre-Shave Oil and Shave Cream. It also includes an instruction sheet, which I always think is a good idea. In this case, though, I think the instructions are missing a step. Step 1 is clean your face. Easy. Done. Step 2 tells you to "apply a thin layer of Anthony Logistics Pre-Shave Oil to help lubricate the skin and soften the beard hairs." Step 3 is to "apply a thin layer of Anthony Logistics Shave Cream." What they don't tell you to do, and what I think is really important, is to apply a little water to your face between steps 2 and 3. Not a lot of water will stick to your face, since you've got a base of oil in there, and what does stick will tend to bead up. But I found that Anthony's Shave Cream lathers up much better with a little water in the mix. Also, you'll get a smoother shaving experience - less tug of the razor against your skin. I tried it both ways - with and without the middle layer of water - and found that the water definitely adds to the comfort of the shave.

AnthonyShaveCream.gifThat said I have two complaints with Anthony's shave system. The first is packaging - the bottle which holds the Pre-Shave Oil has a wide mouth which makes it difficult to get a small amount out at a time. I ended up holding the bottle against my palm and tipping the entire thing over, getting a nickel size each time. However then the oil is in my palm and not my fingertips, making it more difficult to apply to my face. I would have preferred either a squeeze bottle or a smaller mouth.

The second complaint was with the closeness of the shave. Some of my beard hairs grow straight out from the skin, and some grow parallel to the skin. I've used shaving creams before which do a great job at standing these troubled hairs up. With Anthony's Shave Cream, I often would find myself looking in the mirror after I was all done and seeing an patch of skin which could have been shaved closer. The only thing left to do at that point was to get out the electric razor.

Anthony's Shave Cream foams up to a rich, thick, white lather, and there's enough left on your face for a second pass of the razor even when it looks like you've taken it all off with the first. That's good. If you've got facial hair like a mustache or goatee which you're trying to preserve though, you might consider going with a shaving cream which is a little more clear.

anthonyAfterShave.jpg Done shaving? Throw a little After Shave Balm on your face. Your skin will drink it up. This stuff is great. No complaints whatsoever.

All of the Anthony products we tested are labeled as "Fragrance Free", but all do have a noticeable smell. The Glycolic Facial Cleanser is slightly sweet and fruity, and the rest are all slightly minty. Overall very nice and not overpowering. I would definitely recommend the Glycolic Facial Cleanser and the After Shave Balm to anyone. I'm a little more hesitant about the Pre-Shave Oil and Shave Cream. If you've got a light beard or don't need to shave every day, they might work well for you. If you've got a heavy beard and are looking for the seriously smooth shave, I'd probably look elsewhere.

The Perfect Shave Kit from Anthony's Logistics for Men is $50. For the holidays, consider giving it to someone who needs to be broken from the drug store shaving cream habit. It would make a good entree into higher quality men's grooming products.

Shave Center Kit from Anthony for $30

shaveKitAnthony.jpgAnthony Logistics for Men is running a special on their Shave Center Kit which includes

  • Glycolic Facial Cleanser (8floz/237ml)
  • Facial Scrub (4oz/113g)
  • Shave Cream (2oz/56g)
  • After Shave Balm (2.5oz/70g)
  • Reusable storage box great for storing personal items.

According to their website this kit is a $79 value, and with their current sale price of $30 you save "$29". I've been over this several times and I can't quite get the math to work. Always knew I should have paid attention in calculus.

Learn the Proper Way To Shave From Anthony

We mentioned Anthony - Logistics for Men back in July when we wrote about their shaving kit (which is now $50, reduced from $78). If you didn't check out their site then, please do so now. Anthony's instructions on shaving are perhaps the best we've seen on any website. Take every point here to heart - from shaving on a clean face, using cool water in your final rinse, and patting your face with a towel (not rubbing) when you're done. The detail he provides is right on. The problem solvers page is similarly great, with product recommendations to treat specific ailments.

Aside from shaving and other men's products, Anthony's also has a shampoo and body wash for "Little Men".

A gentle self-foaming cleanser that softens and conditions. Leaves baby smelling fresh and clean. Will not overly dry hair or skin.

Now baby can use the same products as daddy. Cute!

Is it a little pricey? Sure. But you know what - you're worth it. Your face it worth it.

Anthony.com has a great set of kits if you're looking to sample a little bit of everything.

Do yourself a favor and splurge on some high-end, high-quality shaving products.
