Gillette Introduces Five-Bladed Razor. I'm Not Kidding.

Gillette Fusion PowerRemember that webcast I told you about? Did you watch? You're never going to believe this. Gillette has leap-frogged the Schick Quattro into the unchartered world of five blades. Five Blades! Did you hear me? FIVE BLADES!

Here's the current main site for information on the new Gillette Fusion, which will be available during the first three months of 2006. Initial pricing will be $9.99 for non-powered version, and $11.99 for powered. Anti-lock brakes are extra. Articles are starting to trickle in from the news sites, but here's a good summary from Reuters. My favorite quote - in response to questions about whether or not Gillette is reacting to Schick's upcoming launch of the powered Quattro, Gillette Chairmain responded:

"The Schick launch has nothing to do with this, it's like comparing a Ferrari to a Volkswagen as far as we're concerned"

Hey - I drive a Volkswagen... although truth be told I'd rather be driving a Ferrari. Can the Fusion really make that happen?

Gillette Webcast

g_thegillettecompany.gifGillette has just announced a webcast tomorrow (Sept 14th) in which they will reveal their latest. From their press email:

The Gillette Company (NYSE:G) will webcast live the press conference to introduce its latest innovation to members of the media and financial analysts on Wednesday, September 14, beginning at 9:00 a.m. (ET). Those wishing to access the webcast should visit the Investors section of www.gillette.com, the Company's Web site.

Can't imagine it will top Steve Jobs and the iPod Nano, but it might be better than the iTunes phone. Here's the actual link to the webcast if you're interested.

Pubic Shaving from NYTimes.com

Here we go again... Our good friend Steph sent in this article from last Thursday's New York Times. The article The Revised Birthday Suit covers the latest fashion trends in women's pubic hair, or lack thereof. While some are dying them pink, a large percentage are zapping those pesky pubes with lasers to achieve a perfectly bald look. Bald women and lasers? Reminds me of the first Star Trek movie. But I digress.

Why are they doing this?

Shanacy Kashani, 27, an airline scheduler who is one of Dr. Shamban's patients, said that she and her boyfriend are enjoying sex more now that she's had the treatment, which was a gift from her boyfriend.

Some interesting facts in case you're considering this type of treatment:

  • 1.4 million Americans in 2004 had their pubic hair removed, up 53% since 2003

  • Laser treatments can permanently reduce hair by 80 to 90 percent.

  • Doctors charge from $250 to $750... Three to 12 sessions may be needed for permanent hair reduction, plus follow-up treatments once or twice a year.

August Wrap-Up

August was a great month at ShavingStuff. We reached record levels of subscribers and traffic due in large part to Yahoo! featuring us as one of their daily picks. Thanks Yahoo!

We were blown away by the ShaveMyFace.com site recommended by Stan at Pacific Shaving Company. Spend some time there if you haven't already. Also, we had a couple of tips and advice posts from Brave Soldier and a/MEN/ity.

We dabbled a little more than usual in pubic hair shaving with posts about the Seiko Cleancut and the Bodworx Body Shaver, but hey, that's what a lot of our readers seems to want.

And finally, my favorite - Micah Ganske's Photoshop-enhanced shaving self-portrait from the New York Times, which is still available online. Check it out before it falls into their pay archives.

Shaving tips from a|MEN|ity

top_logo.gifThree simple tips from Dwight Schultheis, founder of a|MEN|ity.

1. Drench Your Shave Brush with Hot Water and Lather
2. Use a Sharp Razor and Rinse it Often
3. Nourish Your Face after Each Shave

For a little more on each step check out their shaving tips here. Also, 25% of their sales of Original Pink shaving cream are donated to Men Against Breast Cancer. Plus, an aftershave lotion named Ahh.... How can you go wrong?

By the way, I love their tag-line - "Natural. Organic. Crap-free Ingredients." That's got to win an award.

Shaving Porn

I don't know why people feel the need to tell the world about their most embarassing moments in the most public of all media, but they do. And then we laugh at them. Case in point - The day I decided to trim my Sideburns by "Bumpered". Here's my synopsis: Mr. Bumpered wanted shorter sideburns. He decided to do it himself. Chaos ensues.

Content: A-
Format: B+

The story reads like porn for the shaving-obsessed:

As the clippers sprang to life Joe swung the chair away from the mirror. I wasn’t able to see what was going to happen. I guess it was another price I had to pay. Joe pushed my head to the side and ran the clippers up over the new hairline I had created. He cut high into the hair that I hadn’t touched. I watched the remnants of my hair fill my lap. Joe slowly moved around my head. I could now feel a coolness brush across my scalp. Several times Joe changed the blades on the clippers. It seemed to take forever.

Damn. I'm all hot and bothered. Read the full story here.
