Britney Spears Shaves Her Head

shavedSpears.jpg
Here's one person I never expected to be covering in this shaving blog. Seems pop-phenome-mom Britney Spears may have a little impulse control problem. Apparently this past Friday she had the overwhelming urge to shave her head and get a couple more tattoos.
Salon owner Esther Tognozzi said: "I tried to talk her out of it, but she said, 'No, I absolutely want it shaved off now.' "Afterwards she looked in the mirror and said with tears in her eyes, 'Oh, my God, I shaved it all off. My mom is going to be so upset with me.' I asked her if the buzz cut was a symbol of a new beginning and she said, 'Yeah, something like that.'"

(from this article from the Detroit News online)

The best part is that her hair is now up on eBay. That's two shaving eBay references in one week! What are the odds?

Anyone think she looks like that bald woman from Star Trek I? (Oh, did I just nerd myself?)

New Site - SlyBaldGuys.com

SlyBaldShadowSmall.JPG.jpgJust got word of a new site - SlyBaldGuys.com. Here's a repost of their mission statement:

Sly Bald Guys was started to create a community to give bald men, balding men, those that are bald by choice an entertaining and informative place to congregate on the web. The mission of Sly Bald Guys is to become the leading site for men to find information regarding being bald, build confidence about being bald, express how proud they are to be bald, and build the best and largest bald community in the world.

Do I need a mission statement?

SlyBaldGuys covers all topics related to being bald, including head-shaving. Plenty of activity in the forums if you're looking for a new crowd to hang with. There's also growing list of product reviews which is mostly about shaving products, although the occasional music review or outdoor footwear piece seems to sneak in. Plus, and this is something near and dear to my heart - a blog. Subscribe to the bald blog and banish your blahs. (Yeah, I know - skip the alliteration and work on your mission statement.)

The Latest Product Reviews from HeadShaver.org

hslogo_big.pngIt's been a while since we checked in with HeadShaver.org, and in that time they've posted several new product reviews, including Ultra Shave, Sharp's Kid Glove shave gel, Billy Jealousy Hydroplane Shave Cream, Gillette Fusion, and plain old Baby Oil. These reviews are all from the head-shaver perspective, so they've got a slightly different set of criteria than we at ShavingStuff look for, however there's great info for beard-shavers too. I especially like that they note the "gunk factor" with each product. Taking extra time to rinse goopy shaving cream out of your razor can get pretty darn annoying. I may have to start incorporating that factor into my reviews.

More Headshaving From DOVO

Headshaving. It's all the rage. Here's your other option - the DOVO All Stainless Steel "Head Shaver". If you're still shaving your head with a regular razor, it's time for a change. If you want new-fangled modern yellow polymer, you want the HeadBlade. If you want old-school classic stainless steel, you want the DOVO.

Our easy-to-use ergonomic design securely holds on to three fingers, improving control so you don't miss anything. Also incorporates an effective guide to maintain proper blade angle even without looking.

Our clever interchangeable cartridge system allows you to choose from any of the popular Pivoting Twin Blade cartridges made by Merkur, Gillette, or Schick. Use of pivoting cartridges allows the blades to follow the irregular contours of the head providing a closer shave.

The DOVO "Head Shaver" is $19.99 at ClassicShaving.com

The HeadBlade by HeadBlade

headblade.jpg

If you clicked around headshave.baldlygo.com from the last post you probably ran across the HeadBlade, a razor designed explicitly for shaving your head. If not, this post if for you. Meet the HeadBlade. Kind of looks like a Tonka truck crossed with a snowmobile, but it gets the job done. With attitude. From the HeadBlade FAQ:

Q: I can't read. Do you have an illustration that shows how to use this smart little invention?
A: Sure. Here is a sample from the Owner's Manual that comes with each HeadBlade®.
Q: The razor looks really big, like the size of a small to medium size compact car. Can it really be that big?
A: ... It's really not that big, unless you're really really small.

Lot's of menacing celebrity endorsements, including Tyrone Booze, Howie Mandel, LuggNuttz. (Ok I had to look that last one up.) The best thing though is that it takes standard razors - Gillette® Atra®, Schick® Ultrex®, or Super II®.

The HeadBlade is $15 at their online store. You can get it for a few bucks cheaper at drugstore.com, but I suggest you buy from the source and help small businesses stay alive.

Head-Shaver Humor from Head-Liner.com

ShavingStuff reader "Wayne" (or is it Curtis?) wrote in with his head-shaver site - Head-Liner.com. Kindred spirits unite! Here's Curtis's way of life, which includes an awesome typo:

I love being a head shaver. The freedom...the independence...the power that comes with taking control of my life is rivaled by nothing. Head shaving, like other faucets of life, is challenging, encouraging and humorous at times.

Sound like you? Click on over and check them out. Humor and merchandise abound, from "Let the skin proceed when the hair recedes!" T-shirts to the Head Shave 2006 Headquarters Wall Calendar. Have I mentioned that I love Cafepress? Empowers the artist and capitalist in us all. Who wants a pair of ShavingStuff boxers?
