Proraso Products at Bath and Body Works Under the C.O. Bigelow Name

cobigelowshave.jpgProraso is an old-school Italian shaving brand which wasn't seen much in the States until Target started carrying it. Then one day their shelves went empty, never to be refilled. Perhaps Proraso didn't have the same mass market appeal as a 250 count box of Hefty Cinch Sacks. Whatever.

Eagle-eye Shaving Stuff reader Scott recently wrote in with this tip:

Bath and Body Works is selling Proraso shave cream under the name "C.O. Bigelow". If you look closely under the Bigelow banner on the box it says "made by Proraso for C.O. Bigelow"

I haven't made it to my local Bath and Body Works shop to verify this, but aside from the item being listed as "Domestic" on their website, I have no reason to doubt this information. If someone out there in shaving land can corroborate, we'd all appreciate.

In the meantime, if you're desperate to get your Proraso on, head on over to Details for Men for a little taste of the Italian import.

Thanks for the tip Scott!

This Just in - Proraso

proraso.jpgTarget may have stopped carrying Proraso products, but Details for Men has stepped up to the plate. They're offering four of the Italian-made shaving products at very reasonable prices.

These aren't just American products disguised as Italian. While most of the packaging has both Italian and English on it, the Wheat Germ shaving cream (red tube) is entirely in Italian. Luckily you use it like any other shaving cream. However, if you want a translation of the ingredient list or special instruction, see this Details for Men page.

We'll be trying these out in the coming months. Currently in the Shaving Stuff shave studios are products from Gentlemen's Refinery, so stay tuned...

Proraso Now Available at Target

proraso.jpgShavingStuff reader Mark wrote in yesterday with a light scolding. How could I mention Target's Caldo Razor and not the fact that they're now selling Proraso shaving product? "This is HUGE news with the Old School Shaving crowd." Looks like the roll-out of Proraso products at Target is scheduled for the week of March 8th - 15th.

For those who don't know, Proraso is an Italian brand of shaving products designed for use with brushes and straight razors, although many of their products can be used with modern safety razors as well. Their shaving creams and soaps feature ingredients such as eucalyptus and wheatgerm, although they also have the straight up "shave cream" without the fancy ingredients too. Prices are in the totally reasonable range of $10 to $20.

It appears that Target hasn't added these products to their website yet, although most are available at Amazon if you want to buy online. If you want to go brick and mortar, here's Mark's advice:

Proraso appeared in my local Target this morning. They had not only the shaving cream, but also shaving soap, pre/post cream, aftershave, and a decent-looking boar brush as well. It was located in a new "spa" section, adjacent to the women's cosmetics, and not in the men's shaving isle.

Look for the distinctive old-world Italian red and green packaging. Oh, and if anyone can tell me how to get past the first page of Proraso's website, I'd be eternally grateful.
